For people across Greece, the taste of Artos is a spiritually evocative as the site of a golden, candlelit alter. This ceremonial bread is traditionally blessed as part of Orthodox services, and is warmly spiced with cloves and cinnamon and sweetened honey. It symbolises the bread of life and once it’s blessed, it is distributed among the whole congregation for eating and sharing.
